BETHEL – The Board of Selectmen voted recently against allowing the Maine Mineral Gem Museum to keep its banners up until next spring.

Town Manager Christine Landes said the board discovered at its Dec. 3 meeting that no formal application to hang them was filed, as required by the sign ordinance. She said the museum asked to keep them up while an application is reviewed.

“The board discussed it on (Dec. 14), and they decided to decline their request,” Landes said. “Right now, our code enforcement officer is reviewing the application for the banners, but the board asked that the museum take down the banners immediately.”

In other business, Landes said the board voted to allow the Rotary Club to store items in the former Ethel Bisbee School until its annual rummage sale in the summer.

“Every year, the Rotary Club has used the school as a place to hold their storage until they hold their rummage sale,” Landes said. “It’s sort of a catch-all for their donated items.”
