FARMINGTON —  Zack Mittelstadt had 36 points and 18 rebounds to lead Mt. Blue to its second win over the season in a 77-71 overtime victory over Cony in KVAC boys’ basketball Wednesday.

Evan Backus had 20 points and eight assists for the Cougars (2-10). Cooper Hollingsworth added nine points, while Marshall Doyon had eight for Mt. Blue. Cony (5-8) was led by T.J. Cusick with 26 points. Jordan Roddy had 19 poins and Carter Cleaves finished with 18.

Mt. Blue led at the half 41-30, but Cony rallied in the third, outscoring the Cougars 19-8. The teams each scored 20 points in the fourth. Cony tied the game in the final seconds. Mt. Blue had one last chance for the winner but missed.

In overtime, the Cougars scored all eight points from the foul line. Backus had four free throws while Hollingsworth and Mittelstadt each had two.

Girls’ basketball

Dirigo 65, Winthrop 36

WINTHROP — Dirigo raced out to a 21-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked back for a 65-36 win over Winthrop in MVC girls’ basketball Wednesday.

Sabrina Daoud led the Cougars (8-5) with 18 points, while Lauren Henderson added 12. Emma Lueders chipped in nine. Winthrop (1-12) was led by Adlin Chaparin with 12. Shie Smith had seven.

Mt. Blue 54, Cony 43

AUGUSTA — Caitlin Kane had 28 points and seven steals to lead Mt. Blue to a 54-43 win over Cony in KVAC girls’ basketball Wednesday.

Eryn Doiron added 12 points, three steals and four assists for the Cougars (4-7). Leah St. Laurent chipped in six points, going 6-for-8 from the free throw line.

Cony (2-11) got 25 from Catherine Silva.

Mt. Blue opened the game with a 16-12 lead in the first quarter, but Cony tied  it by halftime, 25-25. The Cougars then outscored the Rams 15-8 in the third and held off Cony in the fourth.

Girls’ hockey

St. Dom’s 9, Freeport/Gray-NG/Yarmouth 5

AUBURN — Avery Lutrzykowski turned in a hat trick and Kristina Cornelio scored a pair of goals, leading St. Dom’s (13-1) to a 9-5 victory over Freeport/Gray-New Gloucester/Yarmouth in a girls’ hockey game Wednesday.

After two periods, the Saints held a slim 5-3 lead before erupting with four more goals in the final stanza.

For Freeport/G-NG/Yarmouth, Katie Clemmer scored three goals.

Women’s basketball

UMaine-Augusta 48, CMCC 47

AUBURN — Lindsay Clark sank a free throw with 1.3 seconds remaining Wednesday to lift the University of Maine-Augusta to a 48-47 win over Central Maine Community College in women’s basketball.

CMCC (12-7) led most of the game and were up by 11 points in the third quarter. UMA outscored CMCC 16-9 in the fourth and broke the tie with Clark’s late free throw. It was her only point of the game.

Caitlin LaFountain led UMA (13-6) with 16 points while Darby Toth and Jamie Plummer each had 13. Plummer also had 12 rebounds for the Moose, which are 7-0 in the Yankee Conference. CMCC got 16 points from Abby Tilton, who was 4-for-4 from beyond the 3-point arc. Frankie Lally added fours points and 10 rebounds. CMCC drops to 5-3 in the conference.
