LEWISTON — Ryan Beisaw of Lewiston was recognized with multiple “Shining Star” awards as the Top Friends and Family Team, the Largest Team and Super Team by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at its recent annual meeting of members. Beisaw raised $16,000 and is captain of Beisaw’s Buddies, made up of 93 walkers.

“I joined the walk in Lewiston in 2011, after being diagnosed with MS in late 2009 at the age of 26,” Beisaw said. “I wanted to use my energy and focus my attention on helping others, as well as myself, who have been diagnosed with MS. Five years later, my growing team of nearly 100 people have raised over $44,000!”

Walk MS Lewiston takes place each spring at Lewiston High School. It is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, this year. Register online at www.walkMSgne.org, where more Walk MS sites in Maine and nearby states are listed.

Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. Learn more at www.nationalMSsociety.org.
