AUBURN — Saint Dominic Academy eighth-grader Isabella “Izzy” Luce may soon have her poem in a national independent poet publication.

Jamie Ouellette encouraged her class to submit their writings to contests throughout the year. Luce got a head start on the unit and was the first to submit her work.

She received news that a poem she wrote was selected for the semifinal round of Poetry Nation’s National Amateur Poetry Contest.

As a semifinalist, she has the opportunity to have her poem featured in the multi-volume series “Where the Mind Dwells.”

“It’s amazing to me because I’ve had two foot reconstruction surgeries,” Luce said. “Just having something positive like this happen inspires me to keep writing.”

“Where the Mind Dwells” will be available for purchase on Amazon or on the Barnes & Noble website. The grand prize winner of the contest will be awarded $2,000.
