1942 – 2016

WEBSTER, Mass. — Patrick R. Whirley of Webster, Mass., died Wednesday, April 27 at his home, after a long illness.

He was born in Auburn on July 29, 1942, son of the late Auburn Deputy Fire Chief Frederick M. Whirley and Mary L. Bilodeau Whirley. He spent most of his adult life up upstate New York.

He was formerly employed with the New York State Parks Commission as a state park police officer. He resigned after nine years to take a lieutenant’s position in armed security for a precious metals melting company. He retired in 1988 on disability.

He was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus in which he served as a grand knight for two years. Patrick was a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

Patrick leaves behind his two daughters, Marie L. Whirley of Knoxville, Tenn. and Patricia Weaver and husband, Dean, of Ayner, S.C.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five sisters, Doris Webster of Brooksville, Fla., Mary Charpentier, Patricia Anderson, Peggy Whirley and Joan Hebert of Auburn; and one brother, Jerome Salvadalena of Auburn. He also leaves behind his devoted and beloved companion of 16 years, Shirley Ann Lieske of Webster, Mass.

He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Thomas, Frederick Jr., Michael and John and a sister, Georgette Cain; a granddaughter, Christine Weaver and a grandson, Patrick Urey.
