GRAY — It’s blazing hot in northern New England but it’s nowhere near a record.

The National Weather Service says the temperature is hitting 90 degrees for much of the region this afternoon.

As of 3 p.m., the temperature had climbed to 92 in Portland and Burlington, Vt.; and 94 degrees in Concord, N.H. But that pales in comparison for the record for the date: Both Portland and Concord hit 100 degrees on the same date in 2011.

Andy Pohl from the National Weather Service said the hot weather is accompanied by a threat of thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.
