1949 – 2016

LEWISTON — David Francis Violette, 67, of Lewiston died unexpectedly at Central Maine Medical Center on Friday, July 15.

He was born in Lewiston on June 4, 1949, son of Muriel (Fortin) Violette and Lionel Violette. He was predeceased by his father in 1986.

David was educated at St. Patrick’s School, where he served as an altar boy and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1967. He continued his education at St. Francis College (University of New England) in Biddeford and Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, N.H.

He was a lifelong student of nature and the environment and had a passion for and encyclopedic knowledge of the natural world. David was an expert woodsman and fly-fisherman whose favorite fishing spots included the Kennebago, Narraguagus and Nezinscot Rivers and Aziscohos Lake. He tied his own flies and shared many of these with his friends. His flies have been described by those who know and appreciate the art of fly-tying as “soulful and beautifully executed.”

David is survived by his mother, Muriel Violette of Kennebunkport; sisters, Susan Violette and Nancy Violette of Kennebunkport and Ann Violette of Lewiston; aunt, Lorraine (Fortin) Johnsen of Lewiston; brother-in-law, Stephen Couture of Kennebunkport; niece, Sarah Couture of Kennebunkport; and daughter, Heather Violette.
