JAY — The Jay Village Water District has put out a boil-water order until further notice because of a break in a waterline on Stone Street on Wednesday evening shortly after 10 p.m.
Only customers who lost water will have to boil it.
A crew worked through the night to repair the line break, and the water was back on Thursday, according to a release from Treasurer Ronald J. Moreau.
Now that the break is corrected, the district is required to take samples to a laboratory in Augusta to be tested for E. coli and coliform bacteria. The district will make an announcement when customers can stop boiling water.
Per Superintendent Mike Wells, affected customers should boil water for one minute. That includes water that they plan to drink and use to brush their teeth and make ice cubes. After the water is boiled, it can be put in the refrigerator.
