FARMINGTON — Over 500 freshmen will begin arriving Friday at the University of Maine at Farmington. Classes begin at 8 a.m. Monday.

A matriculation ceremony will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday in Dearborn Gymnasium. UMF President Kathryn Foster, Town Manager Richard Davis and other UMF leaders will welcome the new students and their families. All students, families and friends can participate in the ceremony.

Students will be led by bagpipers to the Roberts Learning Center courtyard for a brief reception.

Following a day of settling in and sessions on Saturday, the students will be given an opportunity to choose from events off-campus on Sunday, including whitewater rafting, a Bald Mountain hike, canoeing or kayaking the Kennebec River, trail riding, mountain biking or visiting Mount Blue State Park.
