An Auburn woman, who has recently returned from Connecticut, says that she passed several towns on the way which were quarantined for infantile paralysis. No one was permitted to make a stopover at any of those places.

Babe Renaud and Lorette Cyr have successfully defended their title in a Twin City mixed doubles candlepin bowling championship match. The challenging team was made up of Bob Gendron and Rose Smolinski. The final count for the match had the title holders in front by a 2236-2190 pinfall edge. The first half of the match was rolled at the L-A Lanes. There the edge was 1138-1072 in favor of Babe and Lorette. Renaud had a 609 total. Mrs. Cyr downed 529. Gendron had a 505 total, and his partner has a 507 first half total.

Hours after the Maine Turnpike begins its new no-ticket toll system north of Gray, local officials will celebrate the long-awaited opening of the South Lewiston Industrial Spur. A ribbon cutting Wednesday will mark the opening of the Maine ‘Turnpike Authority’s redesigned Exit 13, which will allow access from Lisbon Street to Cottage Road through the interchange. The start at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday of the turnpike’s new collection system will bring online new toll plazas in New Gloucester and West Gardiner, eliminating all toll booths and collections at Lewiston and Augusta.
