LEWISTON — Wilma L. Needham, 87, (lovingly known as Wilmy, Grammie, Momma) passed away peacefully on 3 East at d’Youville Pavilion on Saturday, Sept. 17.

She was born on April 9, 1929, in Mechanic Falls, the daughter of Elbridge and Lillian Tenney Whitehouse. She graduated from Mechanic Falls High School and married William (Bill) Needham on August 9, 1947, and together raised six children.

She worked for Marcal Paper Mills until it closed and then worked summers for Tripp Lake Camps. Wilma was a lifetime auxiliary member of the American Legion Post No. 150 in Mechanic Falls. She loved to travel, knit, crochet and do crossword puzzles. After 14 years of living in nursing care, Wilma had many good friends and was always smiling and waving to everyone.

She is survived by one son, Michael and Melody Needham of Mechanic Falls; four daughters, Marjorie and Dan Morrison of Poland, Martha and Terry Yates of Mechanic Falls, Monica and Robert Weston of Winthrop, and Margaret and Ronald Polley of Mechanic Falls; six grandchildren, Brett and Brian Needham, Karen Larue, Todd and Eric Morrison, and Adam Marquis; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Carolyn Hamel of Farmington.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bill; and one daughter, Marsha.

We want to thank the d’Youville family, especially the CNAs and nurses on 3 East who loved and cared for our mother like she was their own.

Online condolences may be shared with her family at www.chandlerfunerals.com.
