HARTFORD, Conn. — The Bantams scored twice within less than two minutes in the middle of the first half as Trinity grabbed a 2-0 victory over Bates in NESCAC men’s soccer action Saturday afternoon.

In the 30th minute, the Bantams (3-4) struck off a corner kick. Tobias Gimand delivered a perfect ball on the corner kick that Alex Steel headed into the back of the net.

A free kick opportunity in the 32nd minute allowed William Baker to find Sam Ganele, who tallied a goal to extend the lead.

The Bobcats’ (3-4-2) best chance came in the 88th minute when Nate Merchant was awarded a penalty kick opportunity. But, his shot got denied by goalie Domenic Quade who had an outstanding match.

Women’s soccer

Trinity 4, Bates 0

HARTFORD, Conn. — The Bates women’s soccer team got out-shot 24-7 as four different players scored for Trinity College in a 4-0 shutout Saturday afternoon.

The Bantams (5-1-2) spread their goals out evenly with two in each half. Sarah Connors finished off an offensive sequence with her second goal of the season.

The only shtos on goal recorded by the Bobcats (2-6-1) belonged to first-year Sarah DiPillo, who forced Trinity keeper Julia Pitino to make saves in the 64th and 67th minute, respectively.

Field hockey

Trinity 3, Bates 0

HARTFORD, Conn. — The Bantams won their sixth straight as three separate players tallied goals in a 3-0 victory over Bates College in field hockey action Saturday afternoon.

A penalty corner in the 22nd minute yielded the first goal for the Bantams (7-1) when Alison Slow found Kelcie Finn, who slapped it home for the score.

In the 38th minute of the match, sophomore Taylor Lough fired two shots in quick succession for the Bobcats (4-4) that were stopped by Trinity keeper Lori Berger.

The last real scoring opportunity for Bates came in the 62nd minute when sophomore Jesslie Moriarty’s shot was also saved by Berger.
