AUBURN — Donald H. Monson, 88, of Denmark, passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 15.

He was the husband of Marion Monson, to whom he was happily married for 68 years. A lifelong resident of Denmark, Don owned and operated the Village Store and Agway Feed Co. He was also the founder of Monson Oil Co., which is now Downeast Energy. Don’s passion for the outdoors led him to receive his certification as a registered Maine guide.

Don was a dedicated family man who passed on lasting lessons, memories of outdoor adventures and traditions to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. These great gifts will be cherished and handed down for generations to come. He enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his family and friends. He and Marion spent several winters ice-fishing at their log cabin on Sand Pond and their summers traveling to northern Maine.

He is survived by his wife, Marion; daughters, Donna Hobbins and husband, Barry, of Saco; Jacklyn MacFarlane and husband, Gary, of Denmark; grandchildren, Jessica Gyger and Dan, Julie Davis and Eric, Jenny Valente and Casey, Jon Hobbins, Dr. Delia Overschmidt and John, and Liam Hobbins; great-grandchildren, Sean and Cody Davis, Addison, Kendall, and Brady Valente. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Wilma Lord; and a brother-in-law, Roger Bucknell; and nieces, nephews and many good friends.

He was predeceased by his mother; sister; and two brothers.

Don’s family would like to extend their appreciation to Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice for its compassionate support.

Tributes may be shared with Don’s family at www.woodfuneralhome.org.
