LEWISTON — Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice recently raised about $2,100 at its third annual Soup, Chili and Chowder Challenge at Baxter Brewing Co.

More than 200 people sampled the offerings of 20 different cooks, voted for their favorites and received discounts on pints of beer.

The money raised will benefit patient care.

“Once again, members of the AHCH family, their friends and the community came out to support a good cause,’’ said Kenneth Albert, president and CEO of AHCH, who served up his butternut squash soup.

Judges were Kevin Simoneau of the Fortin Group, Kelly Goodwin of Team AGF, Sue Ray of TD Bank and Dan Campbell, Hospice House 5K and Remembrance Walk chairman.

They chose Theresa Stocklas’ four-bean soup as their favorite. The People’s Choice Award was a close competition, with Mary Lou’s seafood chowder made by Mary Lou Zahn selected as the top choice. Winners received a prize basket along with the coveted bragging rights for the year.
