It is a sad day, indeed, when a person can’t find a high school basketball tournament game on the television. Public broadcasting used to start coverage on Wednesday, and now I can’t find even one on championship Saturday. There are enough stations now available on cable that they should be able to televise all the games.
I traveled to the Cross Center in Bangor and the spirit of the old auditorium shone through. The No. 1 ranked school was playing the No. 2 school in the first game. Between the third and fourth quarters, the band from the No. 1 ranked school started playing the No. 2 school’s fight song. That side erupted by standing, stamping and singing, with the cheerleaders and mascot leading — a sign of days gone by.
Televise them all.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
