Snowshoe hike on Pleasant Mountain

DENMARK — Loon Echo Land Trust will lead a free snowshoe hike at Pleasant Mountain at 9a.m. Saturday, March 11.

Hikers will see waterfalls, stunning views and mystical red pine woodland on this 3-mile hike at Loon Echo’s Pleasant Mountain Preserve.

The planned route will start at the Bald Peak trailhead, ascending 1,900 feet to Big Bald Summit. From there participants will venture over the North Ridge Trail to North Peak and then down Sue’s Way Trail back to the Bald Peak parking area.

Hikers should bring a camera, water, snacks and trekking poles if needed. Traction and proper non-cotton clothing are required for this adventure.

Hikers will meet Loon Echo staff at the Bald Peak parking area located on Mountain Road, 1 mile from its junction with Rt. 302 in Bridgton.

This strenuous level hike will take approximately five hours. Registration is required.

Peru Winterfest on March 11

PERU — The first annual Peru Winterfest will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, at the Peru Community Center.

Sponsored by the Friends of Peru Elementary School, the family fun day event will include games, sliding, snowshoeing and snowman buildings. They will have equipment to share, but participants are asked to bring their own snowshoes, sleds and snowman kits.

All outdoor activities will be free.
