The Manic Optimists, a Bates College a cappella group, is competing in season three of “Sing That Thing!,” WGBH’s competition show for New England’s best singing groups. The episode airs Saturday, May 6, at 4:30 p.m. on Maine Public. The Manic Optimists perform alongside the Boston Skyline Chorus and the Gann Academy ShenaniGanns, from Lexington and Waltham, Massachusetts, respectively. The three coaches, Annette Philip, a Berklee professor and director of Berklee Indian Ensemble and co-founder of Berklee India Exchange, WGBH Arts Editor Jared Bowen and Boston Children’s Chorus President and Artistic Director, Anthony Trecek-King, offer guidance and will decide which groups move on to the semifinals later in the season.
