CHESTERVILLE — Selectmen on Thursday evening hired Pamela Griswold of New Sharon as town clerk and Erin Norton of Starks as treasurer, both part time.
They also appointed Kevin Wheeler as animal control officer.
Griswold, who is town clerk for New Sharon, will be paid $18 per hour but will not receive benefits.
Norton, who is treasurer for Starks and New Sharon, will be paid $16 per hour through the end of June. Starting July 1, she will be paid an annual salary of $12,300.
Both were hired part time after the offices became vacant this year.
“Town clerk was budgeted as a full-time position with benefits,” board Vice Chairwoman Tiffany Estabrook said Friday. “The board plans to hire a deputy town clerk with the remaining funds. The board’s goal is to have the town office hours what they were previously.”
The office used to be open five days a week: Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
For now, the hours will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to noon.
Estabrook said Norton will need a couple of months to get organized. The long-term goal is to have her at the office Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The board scheduled interviews with applicants for a road crew position and a cleaning position for Tuesday, May 9, beginning at 5 p.m.
