Lewiston Adult Education teacher Jessica Trimmer shows off the Teacher of the Year award she received during the Maine Adult Education Association conference at the University of Southern Maine in June. Trimmer joined Lewiston Adult Education in 2006 after working as a lawyer for four years. Tutoring international students at the University of Southern Maine as a University of Maine School of Law student got her interested in teaching. She has taught adult basic education, English speakers of other languages and citizenship classes, in addition to assisting inmates at the Androscoggin County Jail get their high school equivalency certificates.
