MINOT — Selectmen voted Monday night to have Deputy Fire Chief Stephen French contact a logger about harvesting trees at the Orchard Fire Station log.

French said a wood harvest crew is working at abutting property.

It was specified that money from the harvest would be used to replace the Fire Department’s base radio. It also was noted that such a purchase would require approval by Minot voters.

In other business, Town Administrator Arlan Saunders told selectmen that gravel will be put on the Death Valley Road in the next few days. He said paving is probably a couple of weeks away, according to the Highway Department report submitted by Scott Parker, highway supervisor II. It also was reported that ditch work on Bradbury Hill will be done next week and roadside mowing will start in August.

The board approved a liquor license application for Buck It Grill and Pub to cater the annual Redneck Blank festival on the property of Harold Brooks this summer.

A bid of $201 submitted by Nicholas Farris for land at Harwood/Hawks Pond was accepted upon motion by board member Eda Tripp.

Saunders said he took 56 liens into the Androscoggin County Registry of Deeds Monday morning.

“This is the least we have seen in years,” Saunders said.

“This year we will be getting $63,708 from the state’s Land Road Assistance Program,” Saunders said. It’s “exactly $1,000 more than last year’s amount,” he said.

Saunders told the board that Jon Whited has accepted a position on the Minot School Committee.

Other appointments were Robert Larrabee, animal control officer; Dean Campbell, fire chief; Patricia Roy, health officer; and Kenneth Pratt, code enforcement officer.
