JAY — A local man was injured Monday afternoon when the ATV he was driving rolled over and landed on his head, Police Chief Richard Caton IV said Tuesday.

James Gilpatrick, 47, of Jay was in the parking lot of Kenoco Kwik Gas station at Route 4 and Riley Road after getting gas for the machine. When he drove off he lost control of the ATV and it rolled over.

Speed appeared to be a contributing factor in the 4:21 p.m. accident, Caton said.

Gilpatrick suffered facial and head injuries, Caton said.

He was taken by a NorthStar EMS ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington. He was later transferred to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, an FMH spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Gilpatrick was listed in fair condition Tuesday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
