JAY — Plans are being made to help as many people as possible with a special meal for Thanksgiving in the towns of Livermore Falls, Jay and Livermore

The Tri-Town Ministerial Food Cupboard serves the three towns. Residents from the towns who need help are eligible to sign up for a Thanksgiving food basket during regular Food Cupboard hours (Tuesdays 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.; Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 4 p.m.). The Food Cupboard is located in the downstairs of the Knights of Columbus Hall, back doorway.

Applicants do not need to be clients of the Food Cupboard, but do need to live in one of the three listed towns, provide a local address, phone number and birth dates of family members who are listed in the application.

Eric Thomkins, advisory board member of the Food Cupboard, has organized this event for the last four years. He stresses the importance of signing up before the deadline of Thursday, Nov. 2, so that enough food can be ordered for the nearly 200 baskets that are prepared each year.

Boxes are made up according to numbers in the family. They must be picked up on Monday, Nov. 20, during the special hours of noon to 3 p.m., as no phone follow-up calls are made. Help is available from volunteers during those hours. Pick-up is at the front door of the Knights of Columbus Hall on Main Street in Jay.

Sign-up for food baskets started on Oct. 10, and will continue during Food Cupboard hours until Thursday, Nov. 2.

Anyone wanting to make a monetary donation to help the Food Cupboard undertake this huge outreach may do so by sending a check to Tri-Town Ministerial Food Cupboard (TTMFC), P.O. Box 314, Livermore Falls, ME 04254. A tax-deductible receipt and thank-you will be sent to any donor. The donations can also be made in honor of, or in memory of, a loved one.
