Churches ringing bells for veterans 

LEWISTON — Churches in Maine have been requested to pray for peace and to ring their bells for two minutes at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, to remember veterans that have served the country.

This is a project of the AMVETS Department of Maine, American Legion, Post 22, American Legion District 3 Androscoggin County, Franco American War Veterans Post 31, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11 of Maine, L/A Maine Military Community Network and the L/A Veterans Council.

Drumming group making a beat 

LEWISTON — The Hand Drumming Group plays from 1 to 3 p.m. on the second Sunday of the month, at Trinity Church, 247 Bates St. 

All levels and styles of drummers can play, and they can bring their own instrument or try one of the club’s drums. The cost to play is by donation.

Free programs at Dempsey Center

LEWISTON — The following free Dempsey Center program is open to anyone impacted by cancer, caregiver, patient or family member.

Acupressure for Chi, Jing and Shen, the 3 Treasures for Health: From 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, or 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Nov. 21. Participants should choose one date.

They’ll learn how these three concepts of Chinese medicine can support and improve health.

Society to elect officers

MECHANIC FALLS — Due to inclement weather, the Mechanic Falls Historical Society postponed electing a slate officers at its October meeting and will do so at its 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, meeting downstairs at the Anglican Church of the Transfiguration, 64 Elm St.

Residents are asked to attend and contribute their time and ideas to the society and hear about the group’s goals and mission. The society would like to contribute, share and hold more events of an historical nature, particularly since the Anglican Church has taken on the responsibility of the building.

Membership is open and free.
