Auburn holiday trash collection schedule

AUBURN — Trash and recycling will not be collected on Monday, Dec. 25. A special pick up for Monday trash and recycling will be done on Saturday, Dec. 30. All trash and recycling should be out curbside by 7 a.m.

Trash and recycling will not be collected Monday, Jan. 1, 2018. No special collection will be held.

Trash and recycling can be dropped off at Mid Maine Waste Action Corporation, 110 Goldthwaite Road.

Climb for a Cure benefit

FARMINGTON — This year’s 18th annual Sugarloaf Charity Summit kicks off with the Climb for a Cure on Thursday, Dec. 28.

For a suggested donation of just $10, participants will hike about one mile up Sugarloaf Mountain to Bullwinkle’s restaurant before descending back down. All proceeds from Charity Summit events benefit Maine Cancer Foundation, the Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center and the Dempsey Center.

Participants sign up at Guest Services in the Sugarloaf Base Lodge the day of the event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and meet at the SuperQuad at 4:30 p.m. to snowshoe or ski up Tote Road to Bullwinkle’s, where they will gather as a group to enjoy hot beverages and delicious treats. Those taking part in the kickoff event should bring a headlamp or flashlight and plenty of water.

Limited touring and snowshoe rentals are available.

First Day Hikes planned for 2018

The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry’s Bureau of Parks and Lands has announced its schedul of First Day Hikes on New Year’s Day, Monday, Jan. 1.

Local hikes include:

• Bradbury Mountain State Park, Pownal, at 10 a.m.;

• Sebago Lake State Park, Casco, at 10 a.m.; and

• Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park, Freeport, at 2 p.m.

Sabattus Seniors to meet

SABATTUS — Sabattus Seniors will meet and have a spaghetti meal on Thursday, Jan. 4, at the Maxwell-Gill Hall.

Reservations are required by Thursday, Dec. 28, by contacting 207-375-4037.

If school is cancelled in Sabattus on meeting day, the Seniors meeting will also be cancelled.
