Forest management course announced

PARIS — A six-week course in Forest Management for Small Woodlot Owners will start at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School

Topics to be covered include tree ID, noncommercial thinning and pruning, boundary maintenance, taxes, setting up a timber harvest, working with a forester and wildlife management. The instructor is a licensed Maine forester with 42 years of experience.

Cost is $40 with all materials included. To register, go to the Oxford Hills Adult Education office or call 207-743-8914, ext. 1.

Dance to the Jones Orchestra

PARIS — A dance with the Jones Orchestra is held from 7 to 10 p.m. every Saturday, weather permitting, at the Paris Legion Hall, Church Street. Admission is $5, and there will be food and drinks available.

AARP to hear speaker from Winthrop organization

PARIS — The Oxford Hill Chapter, AARP, will meet at noon Monday, Feb. 12, at the First Congregational Church, East Main Street, South Paris. Lunch will be served at noon, featuring macaroni and cheese.

The cost is $8, and reservations are required by calling 207-744-9069 by Friday, Feb. 9.

The business meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Collections for the food pantry will continue as well as the book/puzzle swap.

The program will be presented by a representative from the Winthrop Rehabilitation for Men.

Eagles to host Texas Hold’em

RUMFORD — Fraternal Order of Eagles host Texas Hold’em poker tournaments on the second Thursday of each month.

Doors will open at 4 p.m. Games will start at 6 p.m. There will be a $50 buy-in with a $5 high hand as well as a 50/50 raffle. The kitchen will be open from 4 to 6 p.m.

Dance to benefit Hope Association

RUMFORD — A Valentine’s dance featuring Joe “The Music Man” Sirois will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at 85 Lincoln Ave.

Refreshments will be available. Donations will be welcome and will benefit the Hope Association. The dance is open to the public.
