RUMFORD — Katelyn “Kit-Kat” Carlow was recognized at a recent American Legion District 5 meeting. She was presented a certificate of appreciation from the Department of Maine, District 5 American Legion and the Peru American Legion Post 199.

She supported deceased veterans by placing flowers on their graves. Her project, “Kit-Kat’s Flowers for Veterans,” developed after she visited a cemetery with her Nana. As she looked around she noticed veterans had flags but no flowers. Her goal is to place as many flowers as possible in the future.

The American Legion will celebrate its 100 birthday in 2019. A year of celebrations are being planned to mark the centennial.
