100 years ago, 1918
Twenty of his fellow employees at the L. A. & W. gave Ralph Brule, who has been starter for the company for some time, a party at his home, 30 South Main street, Auburn, recently. Mr. and Mrs. Brule were out when the unexpected arrived, and found them waiting when they arrived home. The evening was spent pleasantly with music, etc. The guests presented Mr. Brule with a wrist watch, Gillette razor and a toilet kit. He will leave soon for one of the training camps.
50 years ago, 1968
(Photo Caption) Trainees of the Poland Spring Job Corps Center florist aide division visited Auburn today to re-plant flowers outside the Auburn city building — the first of the several areas to be decorated in a week-long program. Others include the Public Library, Androscoggin County Building and at the Veteran’s Memorial Stone at the Auburn Water District Office on Court Street.
25 years ago, 1993
Auburn has hired a landscape architectural firm to study five areas targeted for receiving federal community development funds. The study is required by the federal government for communities seeking Community Development Block Grant funds, available on an ongoing basis to assist low-income urban areas and eliminate slums. This year approximately $1.2 million in funding is available for Auburn.
