Historic Note: The story of this picture should be labeled, “Jesse knows a good deal when he sees it.” In 1939, when at W. L. Blake & Co. hardware store in Portland, where he purchased his saw blades and other hardware needs, there was this saw blade that had been used for advertisement. This particular day, Jesse asked what they were going to do with the blade and if it were for sale. The reply was that it was not worth much because it had been painted. Jesse offered $50, they accepted, and he brought it home. Its value would have been around $300 at the time. When he got home he used a paint remover and the lettering just melted away. He used this blade for 15 to 20 years cutting millions of feet of Lumber. Submitted photo
