Do you ice skate or play hockey? If you do, you might be interested in this pair of one hundred-year-old skates. They look a lot different from what we use today. These have a wooden base with the blade attached with screws, and you can see the long leather straps used to tie the skates around your ankle and toe. On the left end of the bottom skate in the photo, there is a long screw poking up through the base. It screws into the heel of your boot to help hold the skate on.

This pair of ice skates was used in the 1920s by a letter carrier from the Norway Post Office. When the streets and sidewalks were too icy to walk safely, he would wear the skates to deliver the mail. True story.

What do you think about using these skates when you are on the Walking School Bus?
