WEST PARIS — Firefighters from 10 towns plus rangers from the Maine Forest Service battled for 2½ hours to extinguish a stubborn brush fire that destroyed a shed and burned 6½ acres off Orchard Court.
The blaze at 9 Orchard Court was called in at 12:10 p.m. When firefighters arrived, the shed was engulfed in flames that threatened the home of Don Baldridge and two nearby vehicles, West Paris Fire Chief Troy Billings said. Firefighters saved the home and the vehicles.
“It was very dry and there was a little bit of wind,” Billings said. “There was some exposure issues when we got there. The owner lost his shed.”
A helicopter from the Maine Forest Service made a couple of water drops to assist firefighters on the ground, Billings said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Billings said.
Assisting the West Paris Fire Department were firefighters from Norway, Paris, Oxford, Waterford, Greenwood, Sumner, Hebron, Mechanic Falls and Harrison, as well as a couple of rangers with the forest service.
