Bertrand A. Castonguay

FARMINGTON – Bertrand A. Castonguay, 92, a resident of Jay, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, with his loving son, Laurier and his “little girl”, Tina. He was born Feb. 4, 1929 in Jay, the son of George Castonguay and Bertha (Moreau) Castonguay. He attended school at the Wyman School in Canton. He proudly served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. Upon his return from the military he continued to work on the family farm. On September 10, 1955 at St. Peter and Paul Basilica in Lewiston, he married the love of his life Rita G. Jean. They enjoyed 61 years together before her passing in 2017. In 1953 he went to work for International Paper at the Otis Mill in Jay, working in the Beater Room for 23 years and in repairs and maintenance for 38 years before his retirement in 1991. Bertrand was devoted to his faith and very active communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, and a member of the International Paper Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his son Laurier Castonguay and his wife Mary Anne of Jay, his “special little girl” Tina (who was like a daughter to them) and her husband Dr. Jeff Cote of Wells, grandchildren, Justin Castonguay and wife Angela of Sabattus, Amanda Chacko and husband Tom of Buffalo, N.Y., Jaimie Watkins and her husband Dustin of Livermore, Amber Wolf and companion Jamie Froncko of Wells, Rhys Cote of Wells, Emily Ashby and her husband Nick of Sullivan, and Neil Naples of Seattle, WA., 12 great-grandchildren, Jordan, Alexia, Acadia, Amelia, Avalea, Jason, Chase, Brooklyn, Oliver, Lorraine, Vada, and Beatrice, his brother, Frank Castonguay of Livermore, sisters, Connie St. Pierre of Jay, Laurianne, Maryette, and Elaine Castonguay all of Canton, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, brothers, Romeo and Andre Castonguay and sisters, Bernadette Castonguay, Jane St. Pierre and Annette St. Pierre.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 16, at St. Rose of Lima Church, 1 Church Street, Jay, Maine. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Tuesdsay, June 15, at FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine. Interment with military honors at Holy Cross Cemetery, 445 Park Street, Livermore Falls, Maine.
