Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd L. Burgess, Jr. arrived Thursday from Hawaii to spend a month with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Burgess, at Church St, East Auburn. Mr. Burgess is an officer assigned to the Island of Oahu Police Department. The couple’s last visit to Maine was in 1967

Attendance at the first two weeks of Black Mountain Summer Day Camp in Rumford has been encouraging, director Randy Dion said. There have been nearly 50 children each week. And most of them come back, for one reason or another. “My mom works, and I really like it here,” said Ryan Cote of Rumford. He enjoys swimming in the Olympic size pool, activities with other children and being with his friends, he said. With Sharon Law and Brooke Carey, several counselors and volunteers assisting Dion keeps the children busy with numerous activities ranging from swimming lessons and a free swim period, to hiking, arts and crafts, wiffle ball and relay races. Several field trips are planned throughout the summer, and guest speakers such as Doug Maifeld, from the Drug Awareness Resistance Education.
