NORWAY — An Otisfield man was indicted by a grand jury this week, more than a year after he allegedly led police on chase from Norway to Auburn.
Lester Bartlett, 29, was indicted on charges of eluding police, driving with a suspended license, criminal speed, failure to stop for police and violating conditions of release.
According to police, Bartlett fled when Norway police officer Holly Pullen attempted to pull him over for a traffic violation in the early evening Nov. 20, 2020. The chase continued south to Oxford, Mechanic Falls, Poland and Auburn.
Police said the chase never got to high speeds, but they pursued Bartlett’s vehicle because they were concerned about the safety of his two passengers.
Bartlett’s two-door car finally hit a soft shoulder at the entrance of Brickyard Circle from Washington Street South in Auburn and came to a stop, police said. No one was hurt and there was no damage to the vehicle.
Bartlett was booked at the Oxford County Jail in Paris and released on bail after his initial court appearance.
In September, Bartlett was arrested on charges of domestic aggravated assault, terrorizing, theft and violation conditions of release. Those charges are pending court action.
