The Bates College Athletic Association will spring a new feature at the State meet at Waterville Saturday by appearing on the scene of action with a Scotch band, bagpipes and kilts included.

50 Years Ago: 1972

James Chaplin, who has pitched three summers for the Auburn Asas of the Auburn Rec. Baseball League has been named the manager for that team for the upcoming season. The announcement was made today by Norris E. Ingersoll, superintendent of the Auburn Parks and Recreation Department. which sponsors the summer league. Chaplin, a graduate of Edward Little High School where he hurled for championship teams, is a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono and attained laurels as one of the top pitchers In the Yankee Conference. Two summers ago, he played in the tough Cape Cod League. Chaplin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Chaplin of East Auburn, is currently employed, under the federally funded Emergency Employment Act, as coordinator of activities at the YWCA. He will be a player-manager for the local team, succeeding Richard Osgood at the post.

25 Years Ago: 1997

The monthly meeting of the Norway Historical Society will be held Wednesday, May 21 at 7 pm at the society’s building at 232 Main St. Guy Campbell will be the guest speaker and is scheduled to show travel movies.
