Maine State Police closed Interstate 295 southbound in Brunswick for about four hours Tuesday afternoon following a crash involving several trucks.

State police suspect congestion and glare from the setting sun may have been factors.

State troopers responded to the report of a vehicle pileup around 4:10 p.m. in the southbound lane of the interstate near mile marker 27, according to Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

There appeared to be two separate crashes, each involving three vehicles, troopers said. Those vehicles included a tractor-trailer, a large box truck, two small box trucks and a pickup. Two people were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Traffic was rerouted off Exit 28 southbound to Route 1 during the closure, which lasted until about 8 p.m.
