100 Years Ago: 1923
A for-get-me-not sale conducted on Saturday and Monday by the ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary is being patronized. This flower is quite appropriate to this national holiday, and is being worn by many. Proceeds of the sale will be devoted to the local auxiliary.
50 Years Ago: 1973
Lewiston Central Fire Station held its long-planned Open House on Sunday and the place was thronged with visitors. We expected a good turnout, but didn’t expect anything of the magnitude reported by Captain Donald Bolduc, who estimated the crowd at between 6,000 and 10,000. Visitors were given complete tours of the facility and were briefed on fire-fighting techniques. Some people expected to find just a garage with firetrucks and were surprised they found more. The open house began with a 10 o’clock flag raising ceremony and lasted past 4 o’clock that afternoon.
25 Years Ago: 1998
The Women’s Literary Literary Union will meet at 2 pm Thursday, November 12 at the Elm Street WLU clubhouse. The speaker will be Ryan Williamson, an environmental studies student at Bates College. He will show slides and discuss issues of the Appalachian Trail. Williamson hiked in the High Sierras.
