The South Shore Kings ended Saturday’s game with the Twin City Thunder abruptly.

Aiden Lindley scored 38 seconds into overtime in the Kings’ 3-2 victory in a USPHL NCDC game at the Foxboro Sports Center in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

“I told the guys to keep the guys in front of you, find a guy, pick up a guy, and unfortunately, we lost a foot race to the net,” Thunder coach Dan Hodge said. “They were able to finish it off, and it’s one of those errors you can’t have at this time of year. Unfortunately, it happened, but at least we got a point — that’s the silver lining.”

Kotaro Murase opened the scoring by giving the Kings (33-11-4 points) a 1-0 advantage 6:36 into the opening frame when his shot got by Thunder goalie Aaron Matthews (34 saves).

Jack MacDonald evened the contest up for the Thunder later in the first period when his shot got by goalie Ryan Keyes. John Clay Humphreys and Cullen McCormick had the assists.

“Jack is a dynamic hockey player and he made a nice move on their defenseman to create a semi-breakaway for himself,” Hodge said. “He was able to finish.”

Edvin Robertsson gave the Thunder a 2-1 lead late in the middle frame, with Matteo Pero and Cameron Quigley setting the marker up.

Murase found the back of the net again with under six minutes remaining in the third period, tying the game 2-2.

“He’s a really good hockey player, and it seems like we find teams that score multiple goals,” Hodge said. “He’s a good hockey player and he seems to find openings, and he exploits them.”

The Thunder (16-27-4, 36 points) have an important home-and-home series with the Northern Cyclones (15-23-9, 39 points) next weekend. The Cyclones hold a three-point advantage over the Thunder for the fifth and final playoff spot in the New England Division. The teams play at Norway Savings Bank Arena on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Thunder’s final home game. The teams meet again on Sunday in Hudson, New Hampshire, at 1 p.m.

“It seems like every year it comes down to us and them. They are always some great games, tightly contested,” Hodge said. “Hopefully, next weekend is nothing short of intense hockey. I am definitely looking forward to it and I know (Cyclones) coach (Bill) Flanagan is looking forward to playing us.”
