DEAR SUN SPOTS: Spring is here and at the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society we’re gearing up for the busiest time of the year and we need your help!

Volunteering with and fostering for the society can be a very rewarding experience. Not only does it help animals in need in a variety of ways, but it also allows you to contribute to our community and make a positive impact toward our mission of saving and enriching the lives of pets.

We are seeking pet-loving volunteers to help at the shelter or at community events of all kinds, from fairs and festivals to our signature Dash for Dogs 5K Walk and Run on April 28. We are also in need of new foster families who can welcome pets into their homes on a temporary basis. This could be puppies, kittens, pregnant cats, animals recovering from surgery or illness, or an adult dog needing a break from the shelter.

If you have the time and willingness to help, love pets and enjoy working with people, then please visit our website at savingpetsinmaine.org/get-involved/ for more information or to sign up. We can’t wait to have you as part of the team! — Katie, executive director, Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, Lewiston.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I saw your column recently (March 20 Sun Spots) asking for bread pudding recipes. This one is my favorite. I’m in my 90s and my mother used to make it. I make it quite often. —No name, West Poland

Chocolate Bread Pudding: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Butter a casserole dish then in a bowl, stir together 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1 heaping tablespoon cocoa, and a  dash of salt. Add 1 cup bread cubes (2 slices of bread, torn into pieces) and stir.

ANSWER: Well, I’m certainly impressed! My grandmother used to make something similar. I can’t wait to try this!

Readers, if you have a bread pudding recipe you’d like to share, please write in!

DEAR SUN SPOTS:  I read in the paper a year ago that the CMP corridor would bring in tax revenue to Lewiston and a lower price for electricity for the city’s residents. Do you have any updates and or more information?

As always, thank you for your help. — Rick, no town

ANSWER: It’s been about a year since I’ve seen anything on this topic. Readers, please chime in if you have any news.
