To celebrate three art shows at three galleries within walking distance of each other, Lights Out Gallery in Norway is throwing a block party on Saturday, Sept. 14. The block party includes a pig roast at the Wook Nook bar for everyone to enjoy. A bus will be running along the route for anyone who wants a lift.
“63 Windows” is a photography exhibit produced by Lights Out’s first residency program. June Kim, Nick Gervin, Harlan Crichton, Neville Caulfield, Scott Vlaun, and Chelsea Ellis were selected for the first residency for their experimental, rigorous, and engaged relationship with their medium. The artists were prompted to live and work in dialogue with the town, the house, and their practices. The Gingerbread House is located at 500 Main St., Norway.
“Marking Time – A Measure of Craft” is an invitational exhibition of fifteen Maine artists working in craft-based mediums. The concept is to create an exhibition that explores how traditional craft techniques and materials, developed over time and practice, influence and inform artistic expression. Craft has often been associated primarily with utility and decoration. This collection of work aims to challenge the delineations between form and function, decorative and expressive, practical and emotional. The exhibition is co-curated by artists Diana Arcadipone and Judith Schneider. The Carriage House is located at 476 Main St., Norway.
“Down the Rabbit Hole” at the Wolf & Harp will open its doors for the third of four showings available for the public. This show, comprising 68 pieces by 46 artists chosen from our recent open call, is an installation of flat work and sculpture in a high-end wedding venue in the heart of Norway. The museum-quality artworks stand against the backdrop of the historic mansion with its arched ceremony space and speakeasy. The exhibition will only be available to be seen by the public twice more on Oct. 24 and Dec. 12. Wolf & Harp is located at 76 Pleasant St., Norway.
Doors for the art shows are open from 3-7 p.m. All artwork in the shows is available for purchase.
The pig roast begins at 4 p.m. and ends when no more pig is left. The Wook Nook is located at 495 Main St., Norway.
Admission to this event is free, and everyone is invited. Lights Out members will be wearing yellow, and we encourage attendees to wear yellow as well.
