Breakfast

JAY — VFW auxiliary in Jay will be hosting its annual children’s breakfast with Mr. and Mrs. Claus on Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the VFW Post. Please join us for a sausage and pancake breakfast, including mini muffins and donuts and Grinch fruit, and plenty of strawberries and cream for the pancakes. Hot chocolate and juice will also be available. We will be helping the children make treat bags and filing them to take home with them. Don’t forget to put your name in for the door prize. After breakfast please stop by Saint Rose Community Building for some holiday shopping for the family. They’ll be waiting for you.

Wonderland

Cantata

FARMINGTON — The Christmas cantata, “Stars of Glory,” will be presented at the New Hope Baptist Church, 268 Perham Street in Farmington on Friday, Dec. 20, and Sunday, Dec. 22. The free hour-long program will begin on both nights at 7 p.m. This unique production features familiar and new Christmas carols in a Celtic style of music. Accompanied by a beautifully orchestrated background, it will be interspersed with Scripture readings of the Nativity and live instrumental selections performed on violin, penny whistle, flute, and trumpet, as well as orchestral bells and chimes. Nativity play

FARMINGTON — A children’s Nativity play will be performed during the 10:30 a.m. service Dec. 22 at Farmington Baptist Church in Farmington. Everyone is invited to join us at the service to share in the joy of the season with the children. For more information call the church at 207-779-0731.

MADRID TWP — Reeds Mill Church, 995 Reeds Mill Road in Madrid Township, will hold its annual Candlelight Christmas Service on Sunday, Dec. 22, at 3 p.m. All are welcome. This church is perfect for a nostalgic trip to “Christmas Past” with the original kerosene lamps and candlelit windows. Steeped in history and tradition, this service harkens back to the church’s first service held, Dec. 2, 1892, where over 100 people attended. This year’s Christmas celebration, led by Ginni Robie includes singing favorite carols, the reading of the Christmas story and a brief message appropriate for the season: something about a Christmas stocking for Jesus. New Year’s Eve

JAY — Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335 will be holding a New Year’s Eve dine and dance on Dec. 31. Doors open at 5 p.m. You must buy your tickets in advance $30. Music with Matt and the Barnburners from 7 to 10 p.m. Dinner served at 6 p.m. Salad, baked stuffed chicken, garlic, mashed potatoes, tarragon, buttered, green beans, cranberry sauce, and a serve yourself chocolate fountain for dessert.
