FARMINGTON — The Mt. Blue Area Garden Club has initiated its Community Grant Program, aimed at supporting local businesses and nonprofit organizations in its gardening and civic beautification efforts.

The program will offer up to $500 annually to eligible applicants operating in Farmington, Wilton, Chesterville, New Sharon, New Vineyard, Temple, Starks, Vienna or Weld. The grant is intended to assist businesses, nonprofit organizations, schools and community groups in projects that beautify their location or a shared community space through gardening and landscaping efforts. Projects may include planting flowers, shrubs or trees; installing garden beds; or other activities that create welcoming and visually appealing environments for all to enjoy, according to a news release from the club.

Applications will be accepted until April 1. Interested businesses and organizations can find the application form and detailed eligibility criteria at mtbluegardenclub.org. Winners will be announced by May 1, giving recipients time to plan and execute their projects during the growing season.

The club will continue to also award an annual $1,000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior in Franklin County pursuing studies in horticulture, ecology or other gardening-related fields.
