DEAR SUN SPOTS: The town of Hartford, in conjunction with the Evening Star Masonic Lodge in Buckfield, is hosting a benefit supper Saturday, March 15, from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Hartford Town Hall, 1196 Main St.
Proceeds will go toward a small replacement home for the Stevens family whose current house has been struck by several vehicles failing to stop at the intersection of Routes 219 and 140.
Spaghetti, meatballs, sausage and vegetarian sauces will be served along with garlic bread, salads and desserts.
Additionally, a raffle and 50/50 drawing will be held. Donations will be accepted and matched by the Grand Lodge of Maine. — Jerry, Hartford
ANSWER: It’s a wonderful thing that the community is helping this couple. Work has started on their new place and all will be well. They are in good hands.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Lasagna Love needs volunteers. If you love to cook and want to help a neighbor, it’s easy, flexible and incredibly rewarding. Cook in your own home, on your own schedule, and deliver only where you’re comfortable. Our only requirement (besides food safety) is kindness and no judgment, just good food and good hearts.
I know it sounds too good to be true, but Lasagna Love is a nationwide nonprofit that started during the pandemic. I’ve been involved since the beginning and lead the Maine chapter since moving here in 2022. Feel free to Google Lasagna Love to see how legit our reach is. It’s impressive how quickly kindness spreads!
Lasagna Love is a program that spreads kindness through free home-cooked lasagnas. If you or someone you know could use a comforting meal delivered to your home at no cost, we’re here for you, no questions asked.
We help for any reason: financial struggles, having a new baby, illness, just a tough week — whatever “need” looks like for you, we are here, because everyone needs kindness. Volunteers provide the ingredients, cook and deliver, so timing depends on availability, but we always do our best.
Request a meal at www.lasagnalove.org/request or sign up to volunteer with us at www.lasagnalove.org/volunteer
We’d love to spread some kindness your way! — No name, no town
ANSWER: What a wonderful way to share with and help others. Let’s grow Lasagna Love in our communities. Or perhaps you would like to use this idea and just prepare lasagna, soup, and other freezer meals for people in your neighborhood, for a local nonprofit, shelter, etc.
Do you belong to a church group, a Grange, a book club, etc.? Do you have friends you can gather and get them on board to cook with you? Let’s get ingredients together, meet up in the kitchen, and get going. By taking part in this effort, the potential is there to really make a difference for people in need. We could all use lasagna and love right now, and always.
