DEAR SUN SPOTS: All of us in Sun Spots Land know if we have a question the best place to get help is here. I am hoping that in your Rolodex you have someone who can help with a problem on Facebook. I am stuck and need help. Thanks for all you do for all of us. — No name, no town
ANSWER: Do you know any tech-savvy high schoolers or college students? I think they could help you. Another option is to connect with the tech person at your local library. Most libraries have times where you can make an appointment to bring in your device for guidance or talk with someone about your issue on the phone.
You may also even find the answer just by “Googling” it.
The techies I have in the Rolodex include Dustin at D&D Computers (https://dd-computers.business.site/, [email protected] or 419-9184; The Computer Place (https://www.tcpme.com/, 783-7232; ACS, Action Computer Services in Lewiston (https://www.acs4u.com/, 786-8740), and Buck Buchanan at PCS, Professional Computer Services (http://pro-pc.us/,[email protected], 784-6295.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I just read the article in the April 21 Sun Spots about plaques and medals to be donated. In the past, I have donated trophies and similar items to John F. Murphy Homes on Center Street in Auburn. I’m not sure if they are still accepting them, but in the past, they were grateful to receive them. — No name, Lewiston
ANSWER: Yes! This is another local place to contact for the repurposing of trophies and medals. You can reach the organization at 782-2726 or [email protected].
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Someone at my church told me there’s a place in Lisbon that sells building materials to those with a low income. This person is away this week on spring break with her kids so can you help me find this place? I have help this week and would like to go over right away to see if they have what I need to repair my porch. — No name, Auburn
ANSWER: That would be Last Sheaf Building Materials Exchange at 102 Lisbon St. (https://lastsheafbme.org/). They are open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
The store offers a variety of new, used and salvaged building materials, tools and supplies at greatly reduced prices. Anyone can shop there but the greatest discounts are reserved for low-income homeowners and those most in need.
I’d love to hear about reader’s experiences with this store.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for a contractor to install a stainless steel liner in my chimney. Everyone I’ve called so far is either not getting back to me or they are scheduling months out. Can you and other readers help me with this issue? — No name, Auburn
ANSWER: In my Rolodex, I have Seaside Chimney (https://seasidechimney.com/). Mike Cortigiano can be reached at 413-4598. Call or text him. I have heard many good things about Mike.
Readers, if you have other recommendations, please help me update that category in the Rolodex.
