As at the beginning of each winter Auburn police are having some trouble endeavoring to stop the youngsters of that city from sliding down hills which cross the car tracks. Sliding is not permitted on these hills and it is hard to make the young folks understand the reason why. The police have been instructed to take sleds away from those who persist in so doing. Sliding is permitted on all hills which do not cross the car tracks, however.

Lewiston police have received complaints about youngsters hitching rides on the back of automobiles and Police Capt. Andre Roux last night pointed out the danger involved in such shenanigans.
The children have been grabbing rear bumpers on cars and sliding along behind them on the snow, said the captain. The complaints have come from the Birch-Bates, Oak-Union street neighborhoods.

Laura G. Malloy, assistant professor of biology at Bates College, has received a major grant of $48,505 from the National Institutes of health (NIH), college officials have announced.
The two-year grant will assist her in research involving blood vessels in the skeletal muscles, for which she already has received funds from the American Heart Association.
Malloy’s project focuses on the responsiveness of peripheral blood vessels, research which she believes may enhance understanding of the prevention and control of malfunctions of the vessels.
