The show will feature large black and white portraits of Lincoln by late local artist Carlo Pittore as well as works by other local artists including Leonard Meiselman.

Lincoln’s face has become a visual icon in American life, appearing in ads and on our coins. This exhibit gives us the chance to re-examine his features and ponder his contributions again.

The Lincoln show coincides with the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address. The Merrymeeting Arts Center is holding a Gettysburg Address Speech Contest on Sunday, Nov. 3.

People 18 years old and under are encouraged to memorize the Gettysburg Address and register for the contest. They will recite before three judges. The winner must recite at the second annual Veterans Day Concert at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at the Bowdoinham Town Hall and will receive a $100 prize and a Pejepscot Historical Society prize book. The second place winner will receive $50 and a PHS book.

The show will run from Oct. 4 through Dec. 15. Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays or by appointment by calling 207-370-5002. For more information, visit merrymeetingartscenter.org.
