LIVERMORE FALLS — With the series on Maine authors having come to a close, Treat Memorial Library has announced a new fall series for its Book Club. The Magic and Mystery Fall/Winter Book Series will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, with Erin Morgenstern’s “The Night Circus.”
The series will incorporate a bit of fantasy and the supernatural appropriate for the coming season. The meeting dates will be Oct. 8, Nov. 12, Dec. 10 and Jan. 14. All meetings will be at 3 p.m. Those who would like a copy of any of the books up for discussion should contact Assistant Director Brianna.
It is time again for the Maine Readers’ Choice Award. The award honors the best in American adult fiction for the previous year and encourages conversation within reading communities. This year the nominees are “Redeployment” by Phil Klay, “Euphoria” by Lily King and “All the Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr. Read, choose and vote Sept. 1 to 15 at www.mainereaderschoiceaward.org or at the library.
Preschool Story Time continues at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays for stories, activities and crafts. There will be Family Story Times as well.
Treat will also take part in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. This is a self-paced program that anyone can begin with their child from birth to before he or she enters kindergarten. The rewards of reading to a child are many, from bonding time to encouraging early literacy. The program is simple: read to a child and keep track of any titles read. Tracking sheets for the program will be available at the library.
Teen Writers will meet at 6 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 3 and 17. All area teens interested in writing in any genre (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, fan fiction…) are encouraged to attend. The idea is to improve writing skills with the encouragement of the group.
They will also explore different approaches and techniques involved in the writing process. Participants will also receive a writing journal full of prompts to jump start the creative process.
Knit/Crochet will begin again at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22. Whether a beginner with questions or a pro who wants company, all are welcome.
For more information about any of these events, call the library at 897-3631 or pick up the activities calendar at the circulation desk. Patrons are able to access the Download Library through the online catalogue at https://treat.biblionix.com/atoz/catalog/.
Due to Labor Day, the library will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 8.
