LISBON — St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church will offer Taizé Songs by Candlelight at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at 496 Lisbon St. The inside of the church will be darkened, lit only by candles artfully placed to increase meditation and lights that evoke a starry night.
What is Taizé? Taizé Prayer consists of easily learned melodies sung repeatedly to inspire stillness, meditation and contemplation. Worship leader Janice Sargent will lead the singing.
Taizé began more than 70 years ago at a monastery in Taizé, France.
St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, founded in 1906, brings together contemporary worship with ancient ritual, Bible-based preaching, expressions of the Holy Spirit, and loving service to others. The church is located on the hill off Route 196.
