TURNER — SAD 52 Adult & Community Education, 486 Turner Center Road, is taking registrations for a variety of classes this fall.
Upcoming classes and their start dates include:
Basic Computer Skills Session 2: Monday, Oct. 31. Participants can choose day or evening classes. They will learn the basic skills that will gain entrance into today’s technological world. Acquiring these skills can help participants get a competitive edge in today’s job market.
Knitted Ornaments: Monday, Oct. 31. Participants will knit holiday ornaments, creating a new one each week. Those attending should bring knitting needles sizes 5, 6 or 7. Students must know how to knit.
Advanced Dog Obedience Training: Monday, Oct. 31. For graduates of the beginner class, participants and dogs can build on the skills they learned and enhance their relationship. Dogs’ responses to commands will become more consistent and reliable. Requirements for the course are non-chain leashes, well-fitting collars and current proof of rabies vaccinations.
Microsoft Word/Excel for Beginners: Tuesday, Nov. 1. Day and evening classes are available. This class is designed to teach the uses of Microsoft Word and Excel. Participants will discover the best uses for each program and how to apply them to everyday life.
Vinyasa Yoga: Tuesday, Nov. 1. Vinyasa means “breath-powered movement.” This all-level class meets where participants are in practice, whether a beginner or more seasoned student. Anchored in the foundation of breathing and movement, this practice incorporates the elements of Tai Chi and yoga. Those attending should bring a water bottle, yoga mat, block and yoga strap.
Polymer Clay Play: Tuesday, Nov. 1. Students ages 6 to 10 will build sculpting skills as well as their artistic confidence by creating fun, easy clay projects. One project will be creating a gnome garden.
Essential Oils: Tuesday, Nov. 1. Essential oils are powerful, beneficial and assist the body in endless ways. The course will teach how they can be incorporated into everyday life, from cleaning to cooking, to supporting your body with immune support, muscle and joint pain and helping get a good night’s sleep.
Brick, Block & Stone: Wednesday, Nov. 2. Students can master a new skill in this basic masonry class. They can understand plumb level and range and learn different bonds and mortar mixes while building small stone walls and archways. Student interest will lead projects.
Pasta: Wednesday, Nov. 2. Make homemade pasta and learn the proper methods for cooking and serving different variations of fresh and dry pasta. Create different styles of sauces from scratch each week. At the end of the night, students can sample their creation.
Zumba Fitness for YOU — Session 2: Wednesday, Nov. 2. Exercisers can get back into fitness with a mix of Latin and other rhythms with elements of cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility. All fitness levels are welcome. The moves are easily modified to meet individual needs.
Seat Weaving – Splint: Saturday, Nov. 5. In this one-day class, participants will learn seat weaving. Any chair with four dowels for seat frame rails can be splint woven. A seat will be exceptionally strong, durable and comfortable. Those attending should bring a chair, a stapler, scissors and a hand clamp.
