LEWISTON – The Maine International Trade Center is offering a seminar on letters of credit.

The course will tell how to ensure that a person or business will be paid for international shipments, explain when letters of credit are the best payment method, and highlight concerns and discrepancies on letters of credit that people should be aware of.

The seminar will be held from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2, at Lewiston City Hall.

The half-day seminar will provide a detailed review of the different types and applications of letters of credit from experts in international banking and freight forwarding, as well as an understanding of bank and freight-forwarder involvement in the flow of documents and payments.

The cost for the seminar is $30 for MITC members and $60 for non-members. Maine legislators may attend at no charge.

People may register by mail or fax by submitting a form found on the Internet at www.mitc.com/PDF/WebLettersofCredit.pdf. People may also register by telephone, if paying by credit card, by calling Cheryl Rau at (207) 541-7455. The registration deadline is Nov. 29.
