PORTLAND (AP) – A group opposed to casino gambling in Maine has decided not to appeal a judge’s ruling on the wording of a statewide referendum question on an Indian casino likely to go before voters in November.
Casinos No! had argued that the question would mislead voters by wrongfully suggesting that a portion of gambling revenues was guaranteed to be spent on education and distributed to municipalities.
Superior Court Justice Robert Crowley disagreed, ruling Friday that the question is understandable and that “ambiguities, complexities and omissions” in the legislation should be addressed during the political campaign.
